About Santa Fe

Santa Fe has been a prime tourist destination for decades. What many of these visitors soon learn is that the area holds as much attraction for residents as it does for tourists. Unlike some destination resorts, Santa Fe is more than hotels and shops. It is a vibrant community; the oldest state capitol city in the nation, established 400 years ago. Area residents are a multi-cultural mix of Hispanics, Pueblo Indians and more recent Anglo immigrants.

The old parts of town (the barrios) with their narrow streets and old adobe buildings with bright colored doors and windows could as well be in Central or South America. In contrast, 10 to 15 minutes northwest of the city is Las Campanas, a new world-class development with two Jack Nicklaus designed 18 hole golf courses, a large equestrian center, tennis courts, spa and Olympic size swimming pool.

The city truly is different from any other in the U.S. Situated at an elevation of 7000 feet between the impressive Sangre de Cristo and Jemez Mountains, the area offers a wide variety of outdoor sports, including skiing, hiking, mountain biking and river rafting. The city has become an artist's Mecca and is the third largest art market in the country. The Santa Fe Opera and Desert Chorale are world-renowned.
